SNMX1205 vs SNMU

Both are square negative milling inserts. The main differences:

• SNMX1205 — pressed-to-shape body with a pronounced chip breaker and edge treatment; higher edge strength, suited to heavy depths of cut and demanding roughing

• SNMU series — typically precision-ground for sharper edges and tighter dimensional accuracy; better for semi-finishing and higher surface-quality requirements

Rule of thumb: choose SNMX for heavy roughing, SNMU when dimensional accuracy and surface finish matter more.

Q1: How many cutting edges does an SNMX1205 insert have?Eight. Four edges per face across two faces; flip or index the insert as edges wear.

Q2: Can it machine stainless steel?Yes — select a tough stainless-steel grade (e.g. PS7925) and reduce cutting speed to 120–180 m/min.
