DESCRIPTION

Product Overview

The TPGN160408 is a 60° equilateral triangular indexable carbide insert for CNC turning. Its 11° positive clearance angle lowers radial cutting pressure, so it machines thin-walled parts and long shafts with less thrust load and better surface quality. The flat top with no chipbreaker groove gives a strong, rigid clamping surface and three sharp edges per insert — index the insert three times before changing it.
Manufactured on a tough carbide substrate with a CVD coating (CD7225) developed for steel and stainless steel turning. The R0.8 corner radius balances edge toughness and surface finish, working from finishing through semi-finishing and light roughing on shafts, flanges, bushings and small bores.

Product Features

  • 11° positive clearance — reduces radial force, ideal for thin-walled parts and long shafts where deflection is the problem.

  • Three ground cutting edges — index three times per insert, the lowest cost per cut in this insert class.

  • CVD coating (CD7225) — high wear resistance and low friction on steel and stainless steel at high cutting speeds.

  • Flat top, no chipbreaker groove — strong rigid clamping surface for reliable indexing accuracy and repeatability.

  • R0.8 corner radius — a balanced geometry for finishing to light roughing, good surface finish on cylindrical parts.

  • Micro-ground periphery (G class) — tight tolerance and consistent indexing accuracy batch to batch.

  • One insert, four operations — external turning, facing, chamfering and internal boring with the same insert.

Recommended Tool Holders推荐刀杆

CTGP / CTGR — 90° turning Top-clamp external turning holders. The most common choice for general shaft and flange turning.
CTFP — 75° turning Shallower approach angle for facing, chamfering and profiling operations.
MTGPR — boring Internal boring bars for bores and finishing internal profiles. Check minimum bore diameter before ordering.

Steel (mild / alloy, < HRC 40)P100 – 1800.05 – 0.200.3 – 2.0

Aluminium / non-ferrousN300 – 8000.05 – 0.200.3 – 2.0
Note: starting values only. Because this insert has a flat top with no chipbreaker groove, chip control relies on the setup — keep the nose radius clear of the job, maintain positive feed, and use a securely clamped holder. If chips are a problem, increase feed slightly rather than lowering speed.

CNC Inserts - Frequently Asked Questions

1. How do I choose the right grade for my specific machining application?

Choosing the correct grade is crucial for tool life and performance. We provide a comprehensive Grade Cross-Reference Chart that maps our CD Carbide grades to major international brands like Sandvik, Mitsubishi, and Kyocera. If you are unsure, simply provide us with the workpiece material (P, M, K, S, H) and machining conditions, and our engineers will recommend the best solution.

2. Can you provide customized CNC tools based on our drawings?

Yes. As a factory-direct manufacturer, we specialize in bespoke engineering. Whether you need non-standard dimensions, specific chipbreakers, or customized coatings for unique alloys, our technical team can develop products based on your technical drawings (PDF/STEP) or physical samples.

3. Do you offer free samples for testing before bulk orders?

We understand that "trial cutting" is the only way to verify tool stability. We offer sample packs for professional buyers to test performance on their own CNC machines. Please contact our sales team with your machine specifications and the material you are processing to request your trial samples.

4. How do you ensure the quality consistency of your carbide inserts?

Our quality control is integrated into every step of the production process in Zhuzhou. We use high-purity tungsten carbide powder and advanced PVD/CVD coating equipment. Each batch undergoes rigorous inspection, including microscopic edge analysis and hardness testing, to ensure that the performance of the 1,000th insert is identical to the 1st.

5. What is the typical lead time for international B2B orders?

For standard models in stock (such as WNMG, CNMG, etc.), we usually ship within 3-5 business days. For customized tools or large-volume OEM orders, the production cycle typically ranges from 2 to 4 weeks, depending on the complexity of the design and coating requirements.

6. Are you a manufacturer or a trading company?

We are a direct manufacturing enterprise based in Zhuzhou, the hunan of China’s tungsten carbide industry. By cutting out the middleman, we provide factory-direct pricing and faster technical support. This allows us to offer more flexible MOQs (Minimum Order Quantities) for small-to-medium-sized distributors and specialized machine shops.
